The US has approximately 900 overseas military bases worldwide.
Russia has around a dozen external military bases, and none are close to America. In the 1960s the Soviet Union tried to install a base in Cuba. Remember the “Cuban Missile Crisis”? Kennedy threatened war with the Soviets and made them remove the missiles.
Cuba is not as close to the US as Ukraine is to Russia.
